David Baldwin Barnes Intern Stipends
The David Baldwin Barnes intern stipends are awarded annually to Black unpaid summer interns on Capitol Hill.
Entry into a career in Congress, federal agencies, lobbies, advocacy, and law in this country is regularly predicated by internships or fellowships during or after college. These positions offer experience, but generally no pay. We recognize that the majority of minority students and young professionals do not have the financial support to work 20-40 hours per week for 10 weeks or more unpaid.
Thus, the David Baldwin Barnes Intern Stipend annually grants $2,500 to a Black unpaid summer intern on Capitol Hill, who otherwise could not afford to take advantage of these opportunities.
Interns may apply beginning in March of each year until the applications are closed. They will be contacted for interviews and further information.
